Essential Curriculum

Outcome – Performance/Production: Students will develop and organize knowledge and ideas for expression in the production of art.

Indicators: Students will select and use safety tools, materials and techniques appropriately for creating a variety of expressive visual statements

Benchmarks: Use tools and materials in a variety of experiences, such as sculpture and crafts. Use a variety of techniques. Use creative problem solving strategies, such as setting parameters for the creation of visual images. Identify and practice proper procedures for preparing and using art materials such as papier mache.

Understanding

Students will understand and use papier mache

Students will judge work with attached reflection sheet

Students work will be judges use attached rubric

Anticipatory Set:

In journal: What are some materials that masks can be constructed from?

Development Activity: Instructor- Students will develop ideas of mask construction

Instructor will introduce paper mache process and demonstrate steps.

Consolidation:

Students will uses aluminum foil to mask face and begin to make mask blank

Closure: Instructor will discuss the proper procedure for clean up and storage of paper mache.

Materials: aluminum foil, newspaper, masking tape, wall paper paste, markers, journals
