The Center for Renaissance & Baroque Studies seeks a reliable, conscientious, detailed-oriented, energetic graduate or advanced undergraduate with some experience with office work to join its staff of ten.
JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will provide administrative program support for various Center programs and events, in particular, the Attending to Early Modern Women: Conflict, Concord symposium (ATW) scheduled for November 5-7, 2009 at the Inn & Conference Center in College Park.
Duties will involve assisting with the promotion of the ATW conference by distributing flyers, posting signs, distributing materials across campus, and distributing information to social-networking websites; assisting with processing registration (mailed, online, in-person) and delivering customer service to registrants, guest speakers, and workshop participants; answering phone and email messages and responding to queries regarding the symposium; assisting the Associate Director with arranging logistical support for the event itself; assisting with the creation of symposium materials; providing on-site support during the conference; providing non-symposium general office assistance (answering phones, office coverage, photocopying materials etc.).
JOB REQUIREMENTS: You must have a Federal Work-Study allocation. Students working on a degree in the humanities preferred; experience and/or interest in event planning a plus; the successful candidate must be reliable and possess strong English language writing and communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential; knowledge of FileMaker Pro desired. Ability to project a professional and positive image, to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to interact with members of the campus and off-campus community in a friendly, courteous, and efficient manner is critical. You must be able to execute at times complicated ongoing assignments and to work well as a member of a team in a busy public contact office. If you are looking for a position in a nice quiet office, where your only job is to answer the occasional ringing phone, this is NOT that job.
