Shakespeare in Performance I

Reconstructing Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
with Frank Hildy

Basing his work on lessons learned from the reconstruction of the London Globe Theatre, Professor Frank Hildy will consider the impact on the relationship between actors and audience of an open interactive stage which allows for multiple simultaneous playing locations. He will also examine the ways Shakespeare's scene structure follows the possibilities inherent in such an architectural model. Dr. Hildy will also discuss recent construction in Staunton, Virginia, of a theater for the Shenandoah Shakespeare Company modeled on Shakespeare's "other" playhouse, the Blackfriars.
