CAST offers teachers a variety of professional development opportunities and tailors these programs to meet the content needs and time constraints of participating teachers. During these sessions, teachers explore texts and discuss issues in the teaching of humanities with scholars from the University of Maryland. Recent sessions have covered a wide range of humanities topics, including Shakespeare studies, world literature and film, multicultural education, reading and writing across the curriculum, and assessment.

Teachers collaborate to create curriculum materials, align content material with state-mandated learning goals, and build skills to incorporate the use of technology into their current teaching practices. You can browse these resources by topic.

Sessions vary in length from a few hours after school to half-days or full-days. CAST also offers longer, more intensive institutes, in a range of formats that convene for a week or two in the summer or span the course of a semester with weekly or monthly meetings. Meetings are held at the University of Maryland and at participating schools and school districts.
