STORIES
Plenary: Stories
- Thursday, 1:30 pm
This plenary concerned women as creators and subjects
of narratives in the early modern period. Texts of many kinds offer narratives
of gender and culture, among them: fictions, history, law, polemics, medical
treatises. What gender paradigms do these stories reveal, and what are their
conventions? How do men's and women's stories differ? What kinds of stories
do we as scholars make about early modern women and gender? We suggested
that you interpret "story" broadly to include poetry, art, and music, as
well as historical and literary narratives.
