From Page to Stage

From Page to Stage is an after-school program that allows high school students to explore theater arts with a UM professor. Meeting once a week for six weeks, the program provides high school students with opportunities to enliven the written word—to bring to life texts that are both familiar and new, canonical and obscure, contemporary and ancient. Students

  1. engage in theater games that enhance language and social skills
  2. discuss texts that have personal resonance as well as cultural relevance
  3. select texts for brief performances
  4. create new and spontaneous performances through guided play
  5. attend live theater performances at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

If you would like your high school students to embark on a learning adventure that exposes them to the excitement of theater, contact CAST via e-mail or call the Center for Renaissance & Baroque Studies at (301) 405-6833. This program is ideal for high school students of all achievement levels. From Page to Stage works well for students who want a more intensive exploration of theater than their regular school day allows or who want to supplement that experience; the program also holds enormous benefits for students to build self-esteem, to find new ways to engage with written material, and to boost their academic achievement by participating in and creating a supportive learning community.
